27 COLORADO MILES

After this weekend I can officially call myself a Coloradan because I summited my first 14er!  On Saturday, I ran 16 miles at Mount Evans (8 up/8 down) which felt pretty good.  Really focusing on my running technique and it makes a huge difference.  On the descent, I began to ‘bonk’ pretty hard (not enough food=decrease performance and irritability), but made it through decently enough.

Sunday my friends and I woke at 2 AM to get to the Mt Shavano trailhead, and began our hike at 5 in the morning.  RESPECT THE MOUNTAIN, this is the lesson I learned.  I underestimated the difficulty of the climb and was very quickly put in my place.  With gusts of wind up to 50mph and nimble rock hopping, we made our way to the summit and ‘bagged the peak.!’   My plan was to climb Mt Tabeguache as well but I knew my limits and decided to descend while my friends soldiered onwards and upwards.  My round trip was 9.1 miles.       1 14er down, 57 to go!    1 14er down, 57 to go!
