Sciatica

Sciatica is a common condition caused by pain being inflicted on the sciatic nerve. While it’s usually caused by spinal compression, there are many causes of sciatica including spinal misalignment, pregnancy, muscle spasms, and conditions related to the misalignment of the spine. However, sciatica treatment is possible through chiropractic care.

The sciatic nerve is responsible for the sensory and motor function of major muscles in the body and sciatica is usually marked by pain that starts in the lower back and move down through one or both legs. Many patients with herniated or bulging discs experience the pain that comes from compressed sciatic nerves. A compressed sciatic nerve can cause symptoms such as:

  • Pain on one side of your lower body
  • Hip pain
  • Lower back pain that radiates down your leg(s)
  • Shooting pains
  • Numbness or weakness in your legs
  • Pain when standing
